2024 Annual General Meeting – 13th January – 4.00pm

We are holding our annual general meeting online once again so as many people as possible can attend. All members are welcome to attend, and all board positions (10 in total) are up for nominations.

Our sport needs people like you to step up. We need generally organised people, people with communication skills, who can liaise with gyms for the hosting of events, people with experience developing proposals for sponsorship, with grant writing experience. If you want to help us as we rocket towards the Paris Olympics next year please get in touch we can have a chat and hopefully get some of you get folks on board (pun intended).

The 2022 Sydney Boulder Series is on!

Five rounds of pumpfest action for climbers of all abilities & ages, presented by Mountain Equipment.

  • Round 1 – 9th April – 9 Degrees Alexandria
  • Round 2 -23rd April – St Peters
  • Round 3 – 14th May – Blochaus
  • Round 4 – 28th May – Skywood
  • Round 5 & Series Finals – 11th June – Nomad Bouldering

How it works

Each round runs in a pumpfest format. You’ll have three hours to bring your pals and climb your heart out. All climbs are allocated points — log your climbs using the Fingercomps App and your eight highest-scoring climbs add up to your final score.

Participate in at least four of the five rounds to get an overall ranking and a shot at the Grand Finals for Open A & B on 11th June.

Seeking Applications for NSW State Coach

We are very excited to announce that Sport Climbing NSW/ACT is seeking candidates for the role of Team Coach for the NSW State Climbing Team.

This is a volunteer position involving the organisation and administration of the NSW State Team – a fantastic opportunity to play an integral role in developing and supporting some of the finest sport climbing athletes in Australia.

Role Overview

  • The role of State Coach is primarily one of development, management and facilitation, with the creation of a platform that furthers the development of athletes across the full range of categories, ages, levels and disciplines being the primary focus, including strengthening the connection between Open and Youth categories to enhance athlete progression and mentorship pathways
  • The State Coach is responsible not only for assisting qualified athletes from State level competitions to perform at National events, but also for facilitating those athletes stepping up from a local to State level, creating opportunities for those athletes wishing to learn and grow their skills towards State level competitiveness, as well as helping to facilitate locally based National / International level athletes as required.
  • The development and improvement of healthy team culture and increasing opportunities for athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents to learn and grow is the primary goal of the State Coach role.

Responsibilities

  • Work to create an effective State Team structure that facilitates the growth and education of the competitive climbing community, including Youth, Open and Paraclimbing categories
  • Manage and facilitate a calendar of events for the State Team aimed at improving team culture, participation, mentorship and education relevant to their competitive development
  • Facilitate athletes from the State that are qualified to Nationals across all categories
  • Participate in team selection and special consideration discussions with the board as required
  • Establish and maintain communication pathways with all State athletes and parents to ensure good flow of information and support
  • Work with the Board and other approved volunteers to identify and apply for local and state government grants as well as pursue commercial sponsorship opportunities that would help the team financially or otherwise
  • Manage the State team budget and coordinate any spending with the Board
  • Work with the Board on developing any other volunteer positions that may be relevant or required, such as assistant coaches, team first aid / physiotherapist, or similar for assisting at competitions or training events
  • Work with the Board on providing opportunities for volunteer training for judging, marshalling, competition management, belaying and other required roles for State competitions

Criteria 

  • Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT), Working with Children Check (NSW)
  • No specific coaching qualifications are available for Sport Climbing in Australia at present
  • Other coaching qualifications and / or experience desirable but not essential
  • Other sports / training / medical qualifications desirable but not essential

While no experience is required…it would be great if those of you who are experienced lead belayers were able to contribute some time for the Open A competition.

Rego open for NSW/ACT Open State Titles

The State Titles competition will decide the NSW/ACT Champion in Lead and Speed for all open categories. And this is your last chance to see our NSW Olympian Tom O’Halloran in action before Tokyo.

Dates:

The event will be held over three days:

  • Friday 18th June 2021 – qualifiers for Open B, Open C, and Inclusive categories
  • Saturday 19th June 2021 – qualifiers for Open A, Masters and Paraclimbing,
  • Finals for all categories
  • Sunday 21st March 2021 – speed climbing for all categorie

Note that qualifiers for all categories besides Open A will be run through the Tour de Corde competition running simultaneously on the Friday and Saturday.

NSW/ACT Youth Lead and Speed Titles – March 20-21

We are very excited to announce that 2021 NSW/ACT Youth State Titles for Lead and Speed are on!

All lead (Junior, Youth A and Youth B) and top rope (Youth C and Youth D) as well as Youth C and Youth D speed will be held at Climbfit Kirrawee on Saturday 20th March.

Junior, Youth A and Youth B speed will be held at Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym, Villawood on Sunday 21st March.

Early Bird Entry prices valid until Sunday 28th February:

  • Early Bird – Lead – $50.00
  • Early Bird – Lead and Speed – $70.00
  • Early Bird – Speed – $20.00

Updates on 2020 State Boulder Titles Categories and changes for Youth

Important note:

Youth competitors will now compete in the category that applies at the next Youth Nationals – in 2021. Check your category carefully as it may not be the same one you were in for 2020 lead/speed titles. Those who will be eligible to compete in Masters in 2021 may compete in Masters for this
competition as well.

  • Open B – climbers born 2001 or earlier climbing up to grade V6 (male) and grade V4 (female) as a guideline
  • Masters – born 1981 or earlier
  • Junior – born 2002/2003
  • Youth A – born 2004/2005
  • Youth B – born 2006/2007
  • Youth C – born 2008/2009
  • Youth D – born 2010 or after
  • Youth A and Juniors Competing in Open A
  • Youth A and Junior competitors wishing to also compete in the Open A category will be required to register and pay for Open A as well as their respective categories. Junior/Youth climbers are not permitted to climb in Open B.
